The End of Psych

What is your advice for students taking AP Psych in the future?
- I would say to get ready for a lot of vocabulary. So many people told me that the class was easy, but it was in fact not as easy as I was told.

What was your favorite activity or project?
- I would say the first activity where you had to guess if a person's guess was higher or lower. Loved that one.

What do you think I should leave out next year?
- I think whenever we watch movies, leave out the notes. Instead, have people collaborate and talk about it from a psychological perspective to get their credit.

Do you have any suggestions or ideas for things I could do next year in AP Psych?
- Not much. I thought it was a good year.

Social Psych in Real Life

 Social Psych in Real Life

Social Psych in Real Life

Social Media is a huge example of Social Psych. Here are some of the many ways social media is a good example of this.

- Compliance

The idea of trends to get people to change the way they speak, dress, or act is a great example of compliance. Trends directly cause people to change their behaviors.

- Obedience

Many people are urged to repost things by their friends or celebrities. This is a form of obedience, because they are doing as someone wishes, seeing them as a position of authority.

- Social facilitation

The presence of other people 100% has a lot to do with social media. The whole basis of why you do things on social media is because you believe other people will interact with it. Therefore, people try harder on their posts.

- Group polarization

Many people tend to believe what's popular on social media simply because everyone else believes it.

- Reciprocity norms

A lot of people believe that when you follow them, they should follow you back. This is an excellent example of reciprocity, because people are expecting something in return.

Attachment Disorder, Emotional Health, and Lana Del Rey

Attachment Disorder, Emotional Health, and Lana Del Rey

Unfulfilled bonds during childhood can have devastating effects on the psychological development of a child. Troubled relationships with fathers can sometimes lead to something we know as "Daddy Issues," which can be a cocktail of different feelings and actions in people when trying to form connections with others. Lana Del Rey's music often explores themes of nostalgia, loss, and failed relationships. Some of her songs, such as "Daddy Issues" with The Neighborhood, touch on the idea of troubled father-daughter relationships and their impact on one's emotional state and ability to form healthy connections with others. In her music, Lana Del Rey delves into the complex emotional landscape of individuals who have experienced unfulfilled bonds in childhood and how it can shape their adult lives.

So why exactly does the music of Lana Del Rey aggregate such a following of people suffering from this issue? Lana Del Rey’s early discography is characterized by an obsessive, overly-romanticized view of love. The narrator of “Born To Die” and “Ultraviolence” lives to please their lover, erasing their sense of self in order to fit what they believe their lover wants (Video Games, Black Beauty, Off To The Races, Without You, Cruel World, Yes To Heaven). Listeners of her music can often relate to the emotions present in the songs. Feelings of helplessness, remorse, and anger are all shaken and blended together produces the ultimate mix for younger audiences struggling with such emotions.

Senses and Stuff

Senses and Stuff

I came across this article while finding things about senses. It discusses how our senses interact with not only ourselves but our perception of the environment surrounding us and how architects make use of this. Architects say that we not only have 5 senses that play into this understanding, but up to 7. This isn't at all backed by science, but it's important in the role it plays in their job. What could these extra senses be you might ask? Well according to architects, these are movement and position. "These two senses are the foundation for orienting yourself in a space and being self-conscious within an environment."

I would say even though this is not tied to science or psychology, I still think it's very interesting how humans perceive the world around them, even it doesn't really make all the much sense. For me, it's just weird how people can like certain types of architecture over others. Like some people like brutalism over roman revival or whatever. I just think it's weird, but very interesting.

Also, I took the color test thingy and I got a really high score. Check this out!

My superhero is Reticular Formation Substance P.

I'll call him Alarmclock! Because the Reticular Formation is involved in sleeping and substance p allows for perception of pain, this cool little superhero would wake up sleeping AP students!

Alarmclock began as a young, tired man. As a child he used to always oversleep and would show up to school late. Sick of this problem, he sought to help other AP students in waking up on time. When these kids oversleep, Alarmclock would seek them out and give them a little pain in order to wake up on time!

He uses his powers for good, ensuring that all AP students can wake up on time!

My Life Story: The Past and the Future

My life began on May 25th, 2006 in Houston, Texas. I was born to my parents Paul and Beatriz and lived with brother Alex. When I was little I attended Lexington Creek Elementary school where I met many of my life long friends. After that I attended Dulles Middle School where I made even more friends. However, I faced my challenges at this point. I struggled academically, and found myself prioritizing video games over everything else. It was at this point that my parents punished me, which changed me forever. After this, school became my main priority, and I flourished in my classes. Every year became more and more AP classes, which became and increasing struggle to maintain but I found a true passion for learning. It was also at Dulles High School that I would find an athletic passion, and learn to love Cross Country and Baseball.

As for my future...

I will graduate Dulles High School in 2024.

I will hopefully go to a T50 university, where I will major in some kind of science.

I will get married some day. I hope it's my current girlfriend, Sol.

I dream of having 2 kids. Their gender doesn't matter to me. I just hope to enjoy the feeling of being a father someday.

As for a job, I'd love to have some kind of job that doesn't keep me in the same place everyday. I want a job where I can explore and try new things and work with new people in new places. I also hope that it makes a lot of money of course.

I'll probably retire in my late 60's and live my best life.

If I make good choices my whole life, I'll probably live to be somewhere between 90-100. That's my guess.

To future Andy,

How much of this became true?

Thursday, February 16, 2023

 Hi,

My name is Andy Baerenwald and this is my blog. I'm a Junior at Dulles High School and I'm in Ms. Halfen's 5th period Psych class. I'm from Missouri City, Texas and I've lived here my whole life.

This is a photo of me in 2021 at the Angleton XC meet. I finished with a time of 24 minutes I believe, which was one of my best at the time. I unfortunately do not have any recent photos of me running, but in the 2022 season I was able to reach a time of 19:42 for 5k.

Now for 4 truths and a lie:

1. I've never been out of the country

2. I'm taking all AP classes for my core classes next year

3. I got a 5 on the WHAP exam

4. I've ran a half marathon before

5. I still don't have my driver's license
